Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in “Ultimate Glow”

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit, “Ultimate Glow” $45.

Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand known for their amazing eyebrow products, but recently they have gotten a lot of hype for their gorgeous “Glow Kits.” These sets typical feature 4 highlight shades that are guaranteed to give your lit-from-within shine. One of the reasons I have loved the Anastasia highlight formula so much is because it is smooth and doesn’t have a chunky glitter formula like a lot of other highlights on the market tend to have. I was very excited whenever I saw this limited edition palette come out because it had all warm gold shades which are my absolute favorite to wear! Some of the colors are a little dark for my skin tone, but I figured this would be amazing for medium to dark skin tones, which is great to see makeup brands considering! Now let’s get onto the swatches; the fun part!

The first color in the kit is, “Snow” and I would describe this as a bright-white shade that has cool-toned, silver reflects. Out of all the colors in the kit, this one is by far the most glittery. It is a bit stark white, so on my skin tone it is too bright and light to be subtle, but I think some fair-skinned gals will love this color to highlight with! I plan on either mixing this color with other darker shades to make it more wearable and also using it as a brightening, inner-corner highlight.

Next is “White Sand,” which is my absolute favorite color in the whole kit! It reminds me a lot of champagne-pop and that is my all-time favorite highlight! This is a warm, peachy, champagne color with a lot of gold shimmer throughout. I think a variety of skin tones will find this flattering. This color only needed one swatch to show up evenly pigmented, which did alert me to some inconsistency in the formula for this particular Glow Kit.

“Golden Dawn” is a true yellow-gold shade. When I was looking at this palette online, I thought this color was going to be one of my most used in the kit, however once applied to the tops of my cheeks, I didn’t find the strong yellow undertone very flattering. I will most likely just use this shade as an eyeshadow because I’m not sure how else I could make it work on the face!

Starting on the bottom row, we have “Sunray,” which I would describe as a peachier version of “White Sand.” This shade has a lot of golden glitter, which looks awesome in photos, but a little odd in natural lighting. I feel like this shade will give you an Instagram worthy highlight in flash photography, but it kind of emphasizes texture and comes across super unnatural in person. I was also displeased with this formula because it was super chunky, most likely from all the glitter packed into the pan.

“Amber Gold” is another extremely glittery shade that has a ton of champagne and gold reflects. This one has a creamier formula, which makes the glitter blend out into nothing once applied onto your cheeks, but still…I don’t know why the majority of these shades are packed with so much loose glitter. None of the other Anastasia Glow Kits that I have tried have this formula, so I don’t know what exactly enticed the brand to change it up.

Lastly, we have “Hot Sand” which is a really gorgeous bronze-rose gold color. I really love the formula and pigmentation on this shade. It is super creamy and blends out gorgeously on the face. Unfortunately, it is too dark to highlight on my skin tone, but I think it may work whenever I have a tan in the summertime! I found it looks gorgeous as a blush/bronzer topper when I am going for that extra glowy look!

For my final review of this product, I find myself a little conflicted on if I should recommend this to you. At $45 total, that makes each highlight $7.50, which seems like a great value for a brand known for it’s high quality makeup products. Whenever I switched these, I could tell immediately that they were inconsistent in the formula from shade-to-shade. It was also upsetting to see that these didn’t have the same glossy texture like the other Glow Kits seem to have. I think these shades may be perfect for someone and a lot of this is just personal preference. On a day-to-day basis, I personally don’t wear a super glittery highlight because it does emphasize my pores and is super obvious in natural lighting. I am not sure if I’ll return this or not because there are a few colors I can make wearable and the others I can use as an eyeshadow.

With that said, I would highly recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in “That Glow” because those shades are super creamy, pigmented and perfect for that glossy, natural glow that I love so much in a highlight! For whatever reason this kit in, “Ultimate Glow” is not as wearable and definitely not as easy to work with as the other palettes I’ve tried by Anastasia. I hope you found this review somewhat helpful, even though I have an undecided verdict! I think there is good and bad to this particular glow kit, but it would ultimately be up to personal preference on what you look for in a highlight to decide whether or not the value is there! If you have tried this, what ways do you use the glittery shades to make them work on an every-day basis? Let me know!

Favorite Fall Lip Colors!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, “Exorcism,” $20. M.A.C Satin Lipstick, “Rebel,” $17. M.A.C Matte Lipstick, “Diva,” $17. Bite Beauty Matte Lip Creme, “Aubergine,” $24. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick, “Craft,” $20.

Berry toned lipsticks are my favorite way to turn any simple makeup look into a full Fall themed glam. I have found my absolute favorites after trying out various formulas and shades over the years. I have a medium-olive skin tone, however I know these colors look absolutely beautiful on many other skin tones. As you can see in the swatches, these are all very berry-burgundy toned lip shades, but I personally see a difference in the colors! I’m in no way suggesting you need each shade to achieve a Fall lip look; I am just trying to show you different formulas, undertones and brands to help you determine which one may be a good fit for you!

First up we have the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade, “Exorcism.” This is probably the darkest lip color I own, but I absolutely love wearing it for a fun night out! I was gifted this product by my beauty-loving cousin Cora and I am so happy she sent me this because I don’t know if I would’ve been brave enough to purchase this on my own! In the tube, the color is a bit intimidating, but once applied onto your lips, it blends out into a deep brick red shade, with a hint of a plummy undertone. The formula is super pigmented and you only need one swipe of this to cover your entire lips. It is SUPER matte, so I would definitely recommend wearing a lip primer underneath if you tend to have dry lips. This lasted for 6 hours straight on me without fading or a need for touch ups, so it is definitely perfect for going out!

Next is probably the most wearable shade in the bunch, M.A.C’s Satin Lipstick in the shade, “Rebel.” This is by far my most worn shade in the Fall because it transitions easily between day and night makeup looks. It is fairly natural for being a berry colored lipstick and I get compliments from women of every age when wearing! I love that this formula is a satin because it moisturizes my lips throughout the colder months. I think this color is a perfect violet-toned berry shade that you can pair with really natural looks or dramatic makeup. Rebel lipstick may not last as long as some of the liquid lipsticks I am mentioning, however it does leave behind a beautiful stain on your lips that I personally love!

M.A.C’s Matte Lipstick in the shade, “Diva” is very bold with a deep burgundy undertone. In the swatch, I only swiped on two coats, but you can build this color to look even darker and more vampy. This is a color I would typically wear during nighttime because it is super bold and can be very attention-grabbing during the day, but that is just how I personally rock it! This is a matte formula, which I prefer in super dark shades because I don’t want it to bleed and transfer onto any parts of my face, which can tend to happen with creamier formulas. It is super long-lasting and is a good alternative to a liquid lipstick which can be overly drying. I would highly recommend lining your lips with a darker lip liner before applying this color to ensure it doesn’t bleed outside of your natural lip line and looks as clean as possible!

I had to mention the Bite Beauty Matte Lip Creme, in the color, “Aubergine” because it not only is a stunning mauve-toned violet shade, but the formula is one of the best I’ve tried in a matte lipstick. The packaging provides a super precise tip, so you can basically line your lips and fill them in all with the same product. Plus, Bite Beauty uses all food-grade ingredients, meaning if you accidentally lick your lips or eat while wearing this lipstick, you can rest assured you aren’t ingesting any toxic stuff! Since the exact name of this product is a “matte lip creme” I will say that isn’t a true matte that dries down to a velvety finish, but I personally don’t mind the extra moisture that creates a semi-matte look! I feel like this would be a super “safe” shade to transition into your Fall makeup routine if you have never experimented with berry toned lip colors!

Lastly, I had to shout out the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in “Craft.” On my skin tone, this color turns out nothing like it looks in the tube. When I first bought this product, I thought it would be a pretty close dupe to M.A.C “Rebel,” however it is totally different and definitely has much more of a purple undertone. I would consider this shade to be on the more dramatic side of the spectrum. It’s formula is super pigmented and very matte. It is a cool-toned berry shade, which differs from the others in my collection in a good way! I think this shade pairs beautifully with cool-toned, mauve eyeshadow when I am going for that on-trend, monochromatic makeup look. This is a super drying formula that I always have to wear a lip primer or Chapstick underneath. The formula applies in a way that you can get super close to your lip line for a very precise application, which is convenient if you don’t have a matching lip liner on hand!

As you can tell, I am mildly obsessed with these colors during the Fall months and have an excuse to own each shade and find different ways to categorize them! I feel like this is an essential product if you want to look like you put effort into your makeup look, but don’t want to do a full-face glam! Just swipe on some berry toned lipstick, grab a pumpkin spice latte and you’re good to go! Thank you for reading this post and feel free to leave me a comment about all the Fall lip colors you’re loving this season!

My Favorite Powder Highlight Products!

One of my favorite makeup products is highlight powder! I am always on the hunt to find the latest and greatest and have acquired quite the collection over the past year! I love “strobing” with these powder products because they emphasize the high points of my face, showing off my favorite features. I also love that I look instantly healthier and more alive by adding some extra radiance to my skin. I think highlight powder can take what would otherwise be considered simple makeup and instantly turn it into a Pinterest-worthy look! The tops of my cheekbones, temples, inner-corners of my eye, tip of my nose and cupid’s bow are my favorite places to highlight. I never skip out on this step of my makeup routine and highly encourage you to try out this popular beauty trend! I wanted to share all of my favorites with you so you can find your best match; whether you want a dewy and natural skin look, or an extremely bright and noticeable glow, I think I’ll have you covered!

Subtle Glow

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact, “Highlight 01 – Golden Nude,” $40.

This product truly stands out in my collection because it provides the most beautifully subtle glow. If you want a natural, effortless highlight, you will absolutely love this product. It gives a reflective sheen once applied, which brings a lifted effect to your face. If you have mature skin, I would highly suggest this one because it isn’t glittery and definitely won’t emphasize any fine lines or texture.

Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo, “Warm Glow,” $30.

I love the “lit-from-within” glow that this highlight gives my face. Again, it really just provides a radiant looking complexion, rather than an intentional shimmer. My favorite way to apply this product is with a large fluffy brush all over my face, not being specific where I place it. Whenever I do this technique, my skin looks hydrated and gorgeous! I would not recommend this product as a strategic highlight because it doesn’t have enough power in its pigmentation to bring out your cheekbones and other high points of your face. It really works best as an all over dusting powder when you’re finished with your makeup and want to look extra dewy. For me personally, I never apply this product in my t-zone, just because after a couple hours I will look unattractively oily, rather than my desired healthy glow.

Makeup Revolution Pro Illuminate, $7.

I mentioned this product as a highlight to pick up in my drugstore starter kit post because it really gives a universally flattering sheen to anyone’s face. Regardless of age or skin type, I find this product beautifully brings attention to the high points of the face, without looking harsh or glittery. I would best describe the overall look of this product to be glossy, which is unique for a typical powder formulation!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit, “That Glow,” $40.

I am obsessed with the formula of these highlights! They glide on the face so evenly pigmented, so you never have one area that looks shinier than the rest. This kit is super versatile because it not only comes with four different highlight shades, but it also can be intensified with beauty mists, like M.A.C Fix Plus if you want an intense, almost metallic looking effect! They last beautifully for hours and I am always getting compliments whenever I wear these out!

M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinsh, “Soft & Gentle,” $32.

This was one of the first highlight’s I ever owned because I read so many blog posts that recommended it! I was so excited to get it and expected it to be a bright and sparkly highlight, but surprisingly it gave me a super natural, skin-like glow! This product does have shimmers in it, but after blended out, they don’t really show up on your skin. It is a gorgeous champagne color, which is universally brightening on many different skin tones! I enjoy wearing this product on a day-to-day basis because it has the power to compliment any kind of makeup look.

Beaming from the Heavens

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed, “Opal,” $38.
I love Becca highlights because they’re creamy, but also have extremely shimmery color payoff. Sometimes the more glitter that’s in a highlight, the more chalky and patchy they apply. With this product, you can guarantee that your highlight will look gorgeous on the skin. I love the shade Opal because it’s a warm, champagne, neutral color that goes great with any makeup look. I love this color as an eyeshadow as well since it’s such an effortless brightening shade for all over the eyelids and the inner corners of the eye! Another amazing aspect of the Becca highlights are their longevity! I can apply this product at 6am and still have it show up when I get home from work at 6pm! I will definitely continue to buy these highlights because I do think they’re the best on the market!

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed, “Champagne Pop,” $38.

This is my all-time favorite highlight! If you have no idea where to begin with this glowing skin trend, look no further than Champagne Pop! It’s a beautiful peachy-gold shimmer, that brightens and compliments any skin tone! If you’re a fan of peachy or bronze blushes, you will absolutely love this shade to place on the tops of your cheeks! Of course it has the signature Becca creamy formula that is long-wearing and pigmented, so you really can’t go wrong in any aspect!

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator, “Gilded Honey,” $26.

This would definitely be ranked as my second favorite highlight! The best thing about this product is its brightening power! If you’re looking for a shade that will give lift to your face, than you’ll love the way this formula reflects on the high points you place it. It is also absolutely beautiful in the sunlight. Since it’s a true gold, it does compliment my olive-tan skin tone very well, but I also believe its universally flattering too! This is also one of the few powder highlights I own that layers evenly over cream products, which is an extra bonus!

theBalm Highlight, “Mary-Lou Manizer,” $24.

This was one of the first highlights I ever bought because of its popularity online! I heard so many YouTubers and read so many blog posts about this being the ultimate glowing skin product. It really is amazing! The bright, champagne radiance it brings my skin is so gorgeous and unique! This is a highlight I’ll always have in my collection because it matches any makeup look and is my go-to whenever I want to sparkle from space. This is also an extremely long wearing formula and will last you throughout long days and summer weather!

ColourPop Highlight, “Wisp,” $8. ColourPop Highlight, “Avalon,” $8.

These ColourPop highlights are the best value on the market right now! They are extremely pigmented and have such great color payoff even once you blend them out on your cheeks. With some powder products, the shimmer will fall out once blended, but since these are a unique cream-to-powder consistency, they go own as dewy and evenly pigmented than they look in the pan. I love the shades Wisp and Avalon because they’re different from one another in shade, but both perform exceptionally well. The shade Wisp is a gorgeous golden-champagne color and Avalon is copper shade that acts beautiful as a blush/bronzer topper to give your entire face a shimmery glow! I’m also astounded that these inexpensive highlights last longer than anything else I own! You’ll love these if you’re just starting out and want to build your collection because they’re budget friendly and extremely high quality!

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my highlight powder collection! I am constantly rotating each of these products into my everyday makeup routine, so they are all being used and well-loved. Although I don’t think you absolutely need every single highlighter I mentioned, I do hope you found a new one to love or discovered some helpful info on the one you’ve been recently eyeing! Happy highlighting!
